After the recent sunshine and the temperature in the high 70s what a disappointment to find the weather changed to overcast, cold and rain all weekend. With the kids in the house all day I was wondering what to play, they have got all the modern day electronic gadgets, which I have to admit I am no good at, so it was down to the ever-reliable board games.

What a treat to find a game that we have not played for ages, Twister. My kids who are both under 7 they have never played it before so trying to explain the rules was interesting, but never the less what a laugh we had. This is a great game with the big plastic sheet with coloured circles you place this on the floor, this is your playing surface.

The spinner is divided into 4 sections right foot, left foot, right hand and left hand which is then divided into another 4 coloured sections. You have to spin the pointer and you place your hands or feet on the corresponding colour.

My kids loved it. This iconic game was nearly banned when it was produced in 1966 as the makers’ competitors said it was a sex game, because the main playing parts of the game is your body. Thankfully this game went on sale and is a great success. We will be playing it again.

top-gun-t-shirtIn 1986 a classic came on to our screens “Top Gun”, this was all about macho pilots trying to be the best. This film is cheesy but have to admit I still watch it when it comes on the T.V. Macho pilots, dog fights, great sound track and Kelly Mc Gillis what more could anybody ask for? Maverick (Tom Cruise) and his companion Goose (Anthony Edwards) are sent to the Navy flying school where the top 1% are sent to see who is the best and becoming ‘Top Gun’.

Maverick who is fighting his own prejudices, but still wants to be the best but, with his cavalier way he is just dangerous. During a flying session his plain encounters technical difficulties and it goes into a spin, Maverick and Goose eject and unfortunately Goose dies.

With all that action going on in the skies, the producers still found time to add in a little bit of love, between Maverick and Charlie (Kelly Mc Gillis). All put together with a great soundtrack this film is now a classic. Top Gun t shirts are as popular today as they were in the 80s.

For those of you too young to remember, the Karate Kid was a great film, it was about a young lad moving to another part of the country with his mother, he gets into a bit of trouble and ends up getting bullied. The caretaker at his apartment is a master of the art of Karate, he takes him under his wing and teaches his young student this fighting art.

cobra_kai_fist_yellow-tAt the end of the film he has to battle in a competition with the local bullies, the Cobra Kai, he beat the bully by doing the ‘Crane kick’, this was the best part of the film. Karate Kid is romantic, cheesy and still makes me smile.

When it was released every young lad that saw it wanted to learn the art of self defence. That was over 25 years ago. You can now say you have seen the film, now buy the t shirt, and impress your mates in your local with a Karate Kid t-shirt. Made from 100% cotton you can a choice of colours or characters from Mr Miyagi, The karate Kid or the Cobra Kai.

Go get your Karate Kid t-shirts and Cobra Kai t-shirts.

Fathers day (21st June) is approaching fast and as per usual we are struggling to find that present that sums him up. Every year it’s the same, children across the country rattling their heads to get that perfect present. Well in our heads that’s what we like to think is happening but the reality of the situation is that us Fathers end up getting the same as last year that bottle of aftershave or the usual pair of socks – if we’re lucky!
